The following article is a repost.

On the 31st of August 2020, the figures of India's GDP were announced. This news was covered by some channels. The media attention given though- is just not enough.

Okay so here is what I observed. According to the image above, Times Now is India's second most popular news channel in India. To me, it seems like it is entrusted by many Indians, but the question we consumers of this information need to ask is why? Okay so, till 2nd September, here is what times now covered. RHEA, SSR, and CONSPIRACY THEORIES which are yet to be proven.

It is important for me to point out that they did discuss this information but not on the prime time slot. Also their infographic was misleading. They said that India's GDP was at least not that bad as others countries when our GDP was the worst in all of the G20 nations. They could have looked at what their own newspaper said about this:

"Different countries use different approaches when calculating GDP," explains Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist, CARE Ratings. "We do year-on-year (YoY), while several others do quarter-on-quarter (QoQ). Hence, while we compare Q1FY20 with Q1FY19, other countries may compare Q2 (i.e. April-June) with Q1 (Jan-March) after removing the seasonality factor," he adds.

India measures it's GDP in quarterly figures and hence the infographic was bogus and misleading. I can't explain this well so you should check this article out: https://bit.ly/33NoOlR

So if you have made it here, I really appreciate that you comment but due to a glitch I can't reply to them, so I will respond through other ways of communication. If you have made it so far, please follow my Instagram where I will start posting daily! Click on the Instagram icon.

On a prime time debate, when they were discussing RHEA vs SSR, a panellist pointed out the crash and Times Now's chief said "go to other channels and read the times on India, we are discussing this right now!" This seems a little too toxic for a debate in the prime time slot watched by many people.

I will talk about distraction in a few moments, but let's talk about how when democracy starts failing, the media does too. There is a positive correlation between the two and is seen in real life examples like this. On the Instagram post which had the video in it, a user said:

"Bhai they are distracting us" which translates to bro they are distracting us. Which seems to be true. This technique is used by almost all right-wing leaders who are in power, and India just became a new example.

It doesn't matter if it is through fake news or unnecessary information but it is enough for us to get distracted. According to a report, scammers used techniques like, "The king of Ethiopia has passed away, pay **** to receive his fortune" and people legit believed this! So... people will believe anything even if it seems bogus.

So to conclude, the media, the government, and social media platforms all want your attention, as it seems to help their succession. When this crash hits us, we will be left for ourselves in the middle of this battle.
